Wedding Dress Part 4: Completing the Dress

Dresses, Handmade Wardrobe, Wedding Dress

ASSEMBLING THE DRESS I sewed the bodice and skirt together, and then inserted the invisible zipper before attaching the petticoat. If I remember correctly, I wanted to deal with less fabric and bulk when I was inserting the zipper. And the zipper didn’t get in the way when inserting the petticoat. Zipper When I was […]

Part 1: Wedding Dress Design & Intro

Dresses, Handmade Wardrobe, Wedding Dress

I knew when we got engaged that I would make my wedding dress. I have been tackling clothing projects since February 2018, but had no couture experience whatsoever! And we got engaged in June, so I had a short deadline! But I very much enjoy a challenge! And I was confident enough in my skills […]

I posted about my #ClareCoat from last winter on t I posted about my #ClareCoat from last winter on the new Minerva website yesterday!
It is such a great beginner coat! Especially with wool, it sews up so quickly!

This plum wool is from @minervadotcom for the #minervacraftsbloggernetwork

My Kelly Anorak is definitely my proudest make, ne My Kelly Anorak is definitely my proudest make, next to sewing my wedding dress. I finished this jacket in the spring and finally got some photos!

This was such a fun sew! I tend to get more attached to longer projects like this one!

I love the style and fit, but I had to do a bit of muslining bc of my broad shoulders. I think I made a size 12, but probably could have gone up a size to be able to fit more layers underneath. But it's so perfect for fall weather and I am giddy whenever I get to wear it!

This fabric sewed up like butter. And there's nothing more satisfying than easy to press fabric. It is @merchantandmills dry waxed canvas from @oakfabrics.

I can hardly believe it's been 2 years! We had the I can hardly believe it's been 2 years! We had the perfect ceremony off Trail Ridge road in Rocky Mountain National Park, with Long's Peak in the background (2nd photo). It was a very small and intimate wedding, and it was perfect. Marrying into this wonderful family (and finally having siblings), is the cherry on top!

I poured my soul into this wedding dress. Even though it's definitely not perfect, it was perfect in all its flaws. I spent about 2 months making it, made 3 muslins of the skirt, ordered a million lace and satin samples, and loooooved every second of it! It will forever be my favorite handmade item, even though I'll never wear it again. Its funny to me that I decided on a long sleeve dress bc average temps in Rocky were around 55 for that time of year, yet it ended up being high 70s and sunny! In the Colorado sun that's sweltering, especially in that heavy dress! Nevertheless, it was worth and I will always be so proud of it.

I have a multi part blog post detailing the process and sourcing - link in bio!

Hey Wyoming, do you know it's summer? Unintention Hey Wyoming, do you know it's summer?

Unintentionally matching my favorite #halifaxhoodie to my harness on this chilly morning in Ten Sleep.

But honestly, it was nice to climb at 65 degrees in the middle of the summer on my favorite rock west of the Mississippi!
Black lives matter. Black lives matter.
